Filipinos planning to work in Egypt need to get an employment visa before
departure, POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said yesterday.
Cacdac said the Philippine Embassy in Cairo has reported that the Passports,
Emigration and Nationality Administration Office of Egypt has required
foreigners to secure proper working permits or visas and not tourist or entry
visas prior to being deployed to work in Egypt.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said a tourist or entry visa issued by the
Egyptian Embassy in Manila or any country cannot be converted into work
permit upon arrival in Egypt.
The new ruling is implemented to curb human trafficking into Egypt and to
lessen the influx of tourist workers thereby protecting the jobs of Egyptian
nationals.
